Ambulatory service
We have 3 full-sized 4WD ambulatory units at GVC to allow Drs. Luedke, Everett, and DeRouen to make farm calls throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, west to Rifle, and east to the Eagle/Edwards region. All trucks are fully equipped with refrigeration, hot and cold water, full dental equipment, most medications, and equipment that allows veterinarians to perform many field surgical procedures. Radiology and ultrasound can also be performed in the field as part of this service.
Dentistry
GVC offers progressive routine and specialized dental care for equine patients. We are equipped with 3 Powerfloat units as well as a complete array of hand tools. We offer complete dentistry services for both performance and companion horses, including routine floats, wolf tooth extraction, and dental imaging, cheek tooth extraction, incisor and canine tooth contouring. We offer dentistry in the field as well as the clinic and recommend a dental exam for your horse each year.
Preventative Medicine Wellness Programs
Preventative medicine and wellness are both mainstays of our practice philosophy. Our doctors will be happy to advise you on detailed programs for vaccination, deworming, dentistry, and sheath cleaning for your horse, and can provide these services either in the field or at the hospital. Signing up for our Wellness Program will insure that your horse gets the finest in preventative medicine, and will also provide significant cost savings when you sign up for this program. In addition, horses that are part of the wellness program will have a 5% discount applied to all veterinary services required for that animal regardless of the severity of the problem. Contact Dr. Luedke or DeRouen for more details on how to participate in this valuable option.
Internal Medicine
Glenwood Veterinary Clinic is proud to offer acupuncture for all animals as part of an integrative approach to veterinary medicine. Dr. Eric Everett completed an extensive course in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture at Colorado State University in 2007, and is available to provide the highest quality acupuncture treatment for both horses and companion animals. Acupuncture can be of great value in managing musculoskeletal problems, lameness, arthritis, chronic pain, digestive, reproductive and urinary tract disorders. Acupuncture integrates itself very well into traditional veterinary practice.
Other facets of internal medicine services include our in-house laboratory, where many blood and body fluid analyses can be performed while you wait. We also frequently send specimens to Colorado State University and other labs around the country for evaluation. Our digital 1 and 3-meter endoscopes provide a detailed view of the upper airway, lungs, stomach, bladder, and uterus as indicated. State-of-the-art ultrasonography gives our veterinarians another non-invasive window into the abdomen, chest, and general soft tissues, and is often used in conjunction with digital radiography to evaluate abnormalities.
Ophthamology
All of the GVC ambulatory units are equipped with ophthalmic equipment to diagnose and treat acute eye emergencies as well as chronic problems. While our doctors are well-trained in this aspect of equine medicine, we are fortunate to have a consulting relationship with Dr. Todd Hammond. Dr. Hammond is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology, and is widely recognized as an expert on equine eye problems. In addition to telephone consultations, Dr. Hammond frequently visits GVC to provide eye clinics for our equine patients, and these appointments can be scheduled through the front office or by our doctors as indicated in their initial evaluation of your horse’s eyes. |
