Dr. Thomas Bohanon
Dr. Bohanon grew up on a large cattle ranch in Montana, where he developed a life-long love of horses that significantly influenced his career choice in equine veterinary medicine. Bo graduated from veterinary school at Colorado State University in 1982. He was accepted as the intern at Littleton Large Animal Clinic after graduation, and remained there an additional 4 years as a general equine practitioner. He was accepted into a combined 3-year equine surgical residency and Masters program at the Ohio State University in 1987, completed the residency in 1990, and was board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1992.
Dr. Bohanon returned to Littleton Large Animal Clinic in 1990, and was the surgeon on staff there until 1997. In 1998 the Bohanon family moved aboard a 46 foot catamaran, and over the next 5 years sailed the across the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean sea to Turkey, and from the Caribbean sea across the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand. While in the Med, Dr. Bohanon accepted a one-year position as an equine surgeon at Centro Medico Equino, a 13 person equine practice near Venice, Italy.
In 2003, Dr. Bohanon and his family returned to the USA, where he accepted a position as equine surgeon at Glenwood Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Bohanon, along with Dr. Mease, became a full partner at GVC in 2005. Dr. Bohanon’s professional interests center around lameness evaluation and all types of equine surgery. He has published multiple papers in refereed journals and spoken locally, nationally, and internationally on these interests and his research.
Dr. Bohanon has been married to his wife, Libby, since 1982, and is very proud of his two children, Angus (20) and Kelsey (16). Bo’s passion for the outdoors and adventure continue, and he can be found (or not found, as the case may be) rock and ice climbing, telemark skiing, mountaineering, or camping with Libby and the kids when away from the clinic.
Dr. Angie Bolger; aka Dr. Angie Hill
Dr. Bolger is a graduate of the University of Guelph, in Ontario, Canada. She was born and raised north of the border in Brockville, Ontario. She first came to GVC as a veterinary student and returned in July 2006 after graduation to become an intern at GVC. Following completion of her internship, she accepted a position at Moore and Company Veterinary Services in Calgary, Alberta, Canada’s largest equine clinic. She returned to GVC in May 2008 as an associate.
Dr. Bolger enjoys all aspects of equine medicine and the variety of mixed animal practice. She has an interest in equine dentistry, ophthalmology and internal medicine and has been enjoying integrating veterinary acupuncture into her practice, since completion of her training at CSU this past spring. Dr. Bolger recently married her fiancé, Matt Hill in Ontario, Canada and will soon be known as Dr. Hill. She currently lives in Gypsum with her husband Matt, Casey the dog, Diva the horse and their two cats. She enjoys riding, hiking, skiing and most anything outdoors.
Dr. Dennis Luedke
Dr. Luedke graduated from veterinary school at Colorado State University in 1983 and completed a year internship at Littleton Large Animal Clinic upon graduation. The next 7 years Dr. Luedke was in a 2-man ambulatory practice in Mesa, Arizona. This practice was primarily involved in equine reproduction, show horses, and racing quarter horses and thoroughbreds. In 1990 Dr. Luedke took a position at Glenwood Veterinary Clinic and he became an owner in 1993. Dr. Luedke is currently the senior partner at GVC.Dr. Luedke grew up in the Denver area. He was exposed to veterinary medicine at an early age as his father was a veterinarian and virologist and worked in arthropod-borne disease research. In veterinary school his efforts were concentrated on large animal medicine and surgery. Dr. Luedke practices as an ambulatory and hospital clinician with approximately 60% of his case load being on farm calls. His primary interests in practice are equine reproduction, lameness, podiatry, and emergency medicine. Dr. Luedke is involved in VMG, (Veterinary Management Group) which is an organization devoted to helping veterinarians become better business managers.
Dr. Luedke met his wife, Gina, in veterinary school and has been married since 1983. He has 2 wonderful children who are the center of his life. Bret his oldest son is 24 years old and is currently in his senior year of veterinary school at Colorado State University. Lauren is 21 years old and is currently in her senior undergraduate year at Colorado State University. Lauren also desires a career in medicine but is currently undecided if she wants to pursue the human or animal side. The Luedke clan is involved with horse activities with our spare time. Both Gina and Lauren compete in reined horse events. Dad and Bret enjoy horse pack trips and hunting and fishing. The rest of the Luedke time is devoted to maintaining their 10 acre farm in Silt, Colorado. Dr. Luedke enjoys the practice of veterinary medicine and considers it an honor and a privilege to be able to work in this profession every day.
Dr. Rocky Mease
Rocky Mease is a Grand Junction, Colorado native where many of his family still live. He and his wife Terri have been married for over twenty-five years. After graduating from Fruita Monument High school he worked in the construction industry as a heavy equipment mechanic and welder for 15 years. He completed his pre-veterinary requirements at Mesa State College in Grand Junction while continuing to work as a mechanic. He earned his doctorate of veterinary medicine from Colorado State University in 2001. After graduation he had a lapse of consciousness and moved to Twenty-Nine Palms, California for a year and a half. After coming to his senses he returned to Colorado to work at Glenwood Veterinary clinic. Dr. Mease practices small animal medicine and surgery and enjoy helping all of his furry patients. In his spare time you can find him either working on or playing with his Jeep Commando. Keep an eye out for him if you are out on the trail. He also enjoys his small herd of registered Dexter cattle. Don’t ask about the little cows or he may talk about them for hours and you may own one in the end.
Dr. Lindsay Helvey
Dr. Lindsay Helvey, our 2010/2011 intern, graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in May 2010. Prior to and during the first two years of veterinary school she called Glenwood Springs home.
She and her husband, Bryant, moved to Colorado for his work and fell in love with all the outdoor activities the state has to offer. She grew up on a small farm in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California, raising many different animals. It was through taking care of an injured horse named “Little Man” that she decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR prior to vet school. Lindsay enjoys all aspects of general practice, however she has a special interest in equine surgery and lameness. She and her husband are major animal lovers with the start of a small farm at their home in Washington. Lindsay enjoys hiking, backpacking, sports, cooking and making anything from scratch.
