Glenwood Veterinary Clinic has provided care for horses since its founding in 1936. Our equine practice has grown dramatically throughout the years and our facility has kept pace with the increasing demand for high level equine care.
Our new equine surgery and hospital building was opened in 2004 and gave us better ability to diagnose, treat and hospitalize cases.
Examination areas:
There are two examination/treatment areas that contain stocks for safe restraint for many procedures, such as examination, ultrasound, endoscopy and shock wave.They also serve as areas for taking radiographs. We have an outdoor sand round-pen as well as a level hard surface for thorough lameness examination.
ICU Facility:
Our main treatment and examination area contains 2 ICU stalls for continuous monitoring and treatment of critical care cases such as colic or neonatal foals. IV fluids can be administered at a rapid rate. The area is equipped for overnight or 24 hour monitoring.
Surgical Facility:
Our state-of-the-art surgical facility includes a padded induction and recovery room, equipped for rope-assisted recovery. Once anesthetized, horses are transferred via a motorized hoist into the surgery room and placed on a padded table for the procedure. Our anesthetic monitoring equipment helps ensure stability of the horse throughout the procedure. A wide range of soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures can be performed, including emergency colic surgery and arthroscopic joint procedures.
Isolation Facility:
We have one isolation stall devoted to housing of horses with infectious or potentially infectious diseases. This stall is equipped with a separate entrance and equipment and all personnel are trained in isolation protocol.
Housing:
Our facility consists of a variety of housing locations for horses including an elective surgery wing, ICU/medical housing, isolation facility and outdoor pens for day or longer term use.
Radiology:
We have a viewing room dedicated to processing and viewing digital radiographs. This room is equipped with a high resolution digital monitor and advanced software for examination and manipulation of digital x-ray and ultrasound images.
